Cooking Lunch with the Locals, Swahili Style

When exploring the island of Zanzibar, include a Spice Tour in your itinerary. A visit to Jambo Spice Farm is fun for both locals and tourists and can be done in either a small private group or a larger group. Visitors to the spice farm can even customize their visit by choosing one, two or more from the following: a tour of the spice farm, a cooking lesson, lunch and/or the chance to purchase spices to bring home.

Just a couple of hours after landing in Africa (a new continent for us!), we were off to a cooking class in Zanzibar.

Before arriving on the island, I had arranged for a local guide to help ensure that we experienced the best of Zanzibar - and that she did. We first met Aiysha at Jambo Spice Farm where we started with a cooking lesson. Once all dishes were prepared, we ate lunch together - yum! Next up was a tour of the spice farm before having the opportunity to purchase some locally grown spices to bring back home.
