Italy | Lombardy | Milano | Duomo di Milano | Duomo of Milan | Duomo Archaeological Complex | Underground | Archaeology
Those interested in getting a peek at ancient history dating back almost 1,000 years before construction of Milan's Duomo began will want to explore the Duomo Archaeological Complex. Getting there requires a full access ticket to the Duomo and a climb down stairs to an underground area below the cathedral. Once inside, you'll have the opportunity to see remains dating back to the 4th century including the Baptistery of San Giovanni (St. John).

Our Duomo full complex skip-the-line tickets included entrance into the cathedral's underground Archaeological Area where we explored on our own.
Fun fact: It wasn't until a 1961 dig that this area (which includes remains dating back to the 4th century) was discovered.
