Italy | Italia | Rome | Roma | Capitoline Hill | Capitoline Museum | Palazzo dei Conservatori | Forum | Overlook | Seven Hills of Rome
Although the smallest of the Seven Hills of Rome, Capitoline Hill is often referred to as the most important. Originally, Capitoline Hill was the home to the Temple of Jupiter, Ancient Rome's central place of worship. During the 16th century, it was Michelangelo who designed the Capitoline Hill square that visitors see today. In addition to the piazza, this hill is home to Rome's city hall (Palazzo Senatorio), the Capitoline Museums, a famous equestrian statue of Marcus Aurelius and a viewpoint which overlooks the Forum.
