New Mexico | Nageezi | Four Corners | Chaco Culture National Historical Park | Chaco Canyon | Pueblo Bonito | UNESCO | Road Trip | Hiking | History | Culture
Although getting there isn't easy driving, the sights within Chaco Culture National Historical Park are amazing (and worth the driving conditions). A nine mile loop road takes you to five of the Chacoan sites. To get the most of a visit to the historical park, you'll need to get out of your car and do some hiking. You'll see "great houses", ceremonial buildings (kivas) and more constructed as many as 1,000 years ago by ancestral Pueblo people.

Once we decided to see some sights along our east bound journey home, Chaco Canyon was near the top of our list. As we started along the unpaved road to get there, we almost changed our mind. First, the "no trespassing" signs had us calling the park to make sure we were on the correct road. Then there was the deep ruts in the road - we sure didn't want to damage our newly repaired car.
The good news is - "We made it!"! It was a memorable and worthwhile (but a little stressful) adventure.
