Depending on your source, it is estimated that Chobe National Park has over 400 or 450 species of birds flying about. Whether traveling by boat on the Chobe River or in a land vehicle, the national park is a great destination for both those who consider themselves birders as well as those with just a casual interest in spotting various flying species.

Our fascination with the birds flying about continued in Botswana. During our first afternoon game drive in Chobe National Park, the species that we saw included helmeted guineafowl, starlings, yellow billed storks, African fish eagles, openbill storks, glossy ibis, spoonbills, little bee-eaters and Kori bustards (the heaviest flying bird and also the national bird of Botswana). I never thought we'd be as excited about seeing birds as we were about seeing other wildlife!
