Sitka, Alaska is a great place to learn some history about Alaska's past outside of a classroom. Visit St. Michael's Cathedral, the Baranof Castle, the Russian Bishop's House and the Sitka National Historical Park. With over 100 acres, the park includes trails leading through a rainforest to a variety of totem poles, a bridge over the Indian River where you may see salmon as well as a museum which often has native artists onsite.

Social Media Description

Day 22 was the second day of our northbound Alaska cruise when the Ovation of the Seas was docked in a port city. We learned some history about the transfer of Alaska from Russia to the United States, watched the "salmon run" and explored Sitka National Historical Park (another stamp for my National Parks book!).
