Tidewater glaciers flow from the mountains to the sea and are known to "calve" (large chunks of ice break off the glacier and crash into the sea water). With about six miles of glacier ice touching the sea, Alaska's Hubbard Glacier is the largest of the tidewater glaciers found in North America. It's most often passengers on Alaskan cruise ships that get an opportunity to see Hubbard Glacier - albeit at a distance of 1/2 mile or further away.

We spent much of the early part of our Day 24 in our cabin (or on our balcony). It was perfect for admiring the view of Hubbard Glacier while listening to the TV broadcast of the onboard naturalist sharing information about the glacier.
