Hiking on a glacier is something that not too many people get to experience. A half-day glacier hike in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park can make that experience a reality for those willing to hike six plus miles in a day. It is recommended that first timers join a group tour with a company like St. Elias Alpine Guides. You'll start off with a 2 1/2 mile hike on land before strapping on your provided crampons for a trek on Root Glacier. Your guide will lead the way to a variety of interesting ice features that will be much harder to find on your own.

Day 32 started off with a hike to (and on) Root Glacier inside Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park. After hiking about 2 1/2 miles, we strapped on crampons so that we could explore the glacier - crunch, crunch, crunch! (We logged over 21,000 steps for the day, including a trek across the footbridge again to catch our shuttle back to Glenallen.)
