Italy | Liguria | La Spezia | Cruise | Portovenere | Porto Venere | Doria Castle | Costello Doria | DIY Day Trip | Bay of Poets | Viewpoint | Panoramic Views
No matter if you arrive in Portovenere via car, bus or ferry, you can't miss Castle Doria standing high up on a hill overlooking the village. The castle that you see today was built atop remains of its predecessor in 1161. Castle Doria was restored multiple times, most recently in the 1970s. You can't beat the panoramic views of Chiesa di San Pietro, the Church of San Lorenzo, the Bay of Poets and more.

So glad that we had the time to explore Doria Castle during our day in Portovenere. Walking around the almost 900 year old castle was interesting but the panoramic views were truly amazing and well worth the 5 euro per person entrance fee!
Fun fact: In the early 1800s, Castello Doria was actually used as a prison.
