Even with Missing Limbs, Il Gigante is Still on Guard

Originally "sculpted" in the early 1900s, the ruins of Il Gigante still stand overlooking the sea at the far end of Monterosso al Mare's sandy Fegina Beach. Unfortunately, through the years, the Giant of Neptune has lost his trident and the seashell that he held - as well as his arms and one of his legs.

How do you decide what sites to see when you go on vacation?

Between the two of us, we do spend a lot of time researching. (What did we do before the internet?)

Although, at 100+ years old, Il Gigante (also known as the Giant of Neptune) is no longer in his full glory, the statue still stands in Monterosso al Mare. So glad we got to see one of the iconic places in this town that may not last forever!

Are you a detailed planner or do you just wing it when you travel?
