Africa's "Big Five" (buffalo, elephant, leopard, lion and rhinoceros) were originally grouped together as they were thought to be the most difficult (and dangerous) to hunt. The largest of the five, the elephant, is also the world's largest mammal. Watching elephants in their natural habitat is an amazing experience. Because of their sheer size, the impact that they have on trees as they break branches, strip bark or rub against a tree can be devastating. Elephants also have a fun side - just like a young human, you may find an elephant of any age "playing" in the mud!

Social Media Description
Seeing an elephant in a zoo is a totally different experience than seeing one in the wild - especially when there's not a lot of distance between you and it. Just imagine the feeling of having a "beast" weighing as many as (or more than) 15,000 pounds approaching you!
If you're not already following us, now is a great time to start. We'll be sharing more from the remaining days of our safari in Tanzania plus our travels further south on the African continent!
