Italy | Civitavecchia | Port of Civitavecchia | Civitavecchia Train Station | Fort Michelangelo | Embracing Peace | Seward Johnson | Statues
Located near Fort Michelangelo between the Port of Civitavecchia (Rome's cruise port) and the city's train station stands the statue, "Embracing Peace". Often referred to as "The Kiss", the statue depicts a US Navy sailor and a nurse celebrating the end of World War II. The statue landed in Civitavecchia over 10 years ago and has also been standing tall in locations all around the United States as well as the rest of the world.

Where have you seen the statue named "Embracing Peace"?
I can't remember where I first saw the statue named "Embracing Peace" by the artist (Seward Johnson) and also often called "The Kiss" and "Unconditional Surrender". I know that I've seen it in Civitavecchia (near Rome) at least one time before our most recent visit. I've also seen the statue in Key West, Florida and San Diego, California.
If you're twenty-two, physically fit, hungry to learn and be better, I urge you to travel - as far and as widely as possible. Sleep on floors if you have to. Find out how other people live and eat and cook. Learn from them - wherever you go. - Anthony Bourdain
