New Zealand | Rotorua | Hell's Gate Geothermal Reserve and Mud Spa | Geothermal | Mud Bath | Day Spa | Spa Day
If you've ever considered taking a mud bath, why not choose Hell's Gate Geothermal Reserve. This Mud Spa, located in Rotorua, New Zealand, ranks high on many lists of favorite "mud spas" around the world. After stepping into the warm muddy water, keep scooping and rubbing mud on your skin until you've covered all exposed parts of your body (except for your forehead). Warning: For your safety, time in the mud spa is limited to 20 minutes. The staff closely monitors your time and will direct you to the showers and cool plunge pool.

Have you ever bathed in mud?
We just experienced our first mud bath at Hell's Gate in Rotorua. It is said that New Zealand's local Maori population has been enjoying the benefits of geothermal mud for over 800 years.
Fun fact: It was George Bernard Shaw who said "this could be the very gates of hell" after seeing the boiling mud at the reserve. It was his comment that influenced the naming of the area!
The pleasure we derive from journeys is perhaps dependent more on the mindset with which we travel than on the destination we travel to. - Alain de Botto
