Sometimes called "termitariums", termite mounds are common sites within Tarangire National Park as well as other nearby lands in Tanzania. Just like with the construction of a human built structure, termites who build mounds like this one each have assigned jobs - workers, soldiers, king and queen. The biggest mounds can take years to build and become the home for as many as one million termites.
