Interesting Krampus Traditions in Salzburg, Austria

While visiting Salzburg, we went to a Christmas Market and saw the Krampus statues. This is an interesting Christmas tradition that isn't commonly recognized in the United States. In central Europe, there is a mythological figure named Krampus. Krampus, who looks like a horned goat, punishes children if they misbehave during the Christmas season.

Do you have any unique holiday traditions?

Christmas will be here before you know it! We ended our year in 2018 with a week in Austria followed by a cruise back to the United States. Being in Austria in late November and early December was the perfect time to wander through some of the Christmas markets. It was there that we learned about the "half-goat, half-demon" named Krampus. One of the things that we love about traveling around the world is learning about traditions that are different from our own!

Remember, be kind or Krampus may punish you!

What unique holiday traditions have you learned about during your travels?
