To Be or Not To Be at Kronborg Castle

An unexpected port change allowed us to travel by train from Copenhagen to Helsingor. We made the best of our change in plans by touring Kronborg Castle, the setting for Shakespeare's Hamlet. Called Elsinore in the novel, the castle has been at the head of Oresund Sound since 1420. It was even rebuilt in the same location after burning to the ground. The tour that we joined took us into the catacombs where we met "Holger the Dane". Legend says that this statue will wake up if ever Denmark is in trouble!

Social Media Description

What do you do when your day in a port is cancelled or changed?

If your day in Stockholm, Sweden is replaced with a day in Copenhagen, you can still get to Sweden. A train will take you to Helsingor, home of Hamlet's Castle. The castle is fun to explore, and, if you're game, you can even ride the ferry to Sweden!

Would you make a last minute plan to ride a train and then take a ferry to get to a country that you haven't visited - if you only had one day? #WordyExplorers #sweden #cruises #helsingor #castles #hamlet
