Arizona | Route 66 | Winslow | Southwest | La Posada Hotel | Fred Harvey | Harvey Girls | Santa Fe Railway | Railroad Hotel | Historic
In the midst of the Great Depression, a resort style hotel opened in Winslow, Arizona, the state's headquarters for the Santa Fe Railway. In 1957, after just 27 years in operation, the hotel was shuttered as traveling by train saw a significant decline. Hotel rooms soon became offices and the structure transformed from hotel to office building for the railway. In the ensuing years, there were times when demolition became a possibility, but never happened. Today, La Posada Hotel is back to hosting guests just as it first did over 90 years ago.

After over two months, we finally returned to Winslow, Arizona to pick up our car (& tow vehicle) which had been in Ford's service department. Since we arrived in the evening, we needed a hotel and chose the historic La Posada. A December stay was the perfect time to see the hotel all decked out in its holiday finest!
