It was a vision, lots of negotiation and a twelve million dollar renovation project which began in the late 1990s that saved the La Posada Hotel from total demolishment. The Winslow, Arizona hotel was designed by Mary Elizabeth Jane Colter, the famous architect who worked for the Fred Harvey Company for upwards of fifty years. The nearly 100 year old hotel was open to guests from 1929 through 1957 before becoming offices for the Santa Fe Railway.

During our first visit to Winslow several years back, we explored a small part of the famous La Posada Hotel during our walking tour of the city. This time, we needed a place to stay for the night, so the choice was easy! It was the "Shirley Temple Room" on the hotel's second floor that we called home for the night.
What you've done becomes the judge of what you're going to do — especially in other people's minds. When you're traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road. - William Least Heat Moon
