Italy | Port of La Spezia | Portovenere | Public Transit | Bus | Ferry | Passeggiata Morin | Waterfront Promenade
The two easiest options for DIY cruisers wanting to travel round trip between La Spezia and Portovenere are city bus or ferry. While busses operate year round, the ferry schedule is more limited. Both options are within walking distance of the La Spezia terminal building, although the ferry is a slightly longer walk. Both departing and arriving into either city, the views from the ferry come out on top. Plus, the walk along Passeggiata Morin, the waterfront promenade, is quite enjoyable!

I was so disappointed that our port day in La Spezia was the day after seasonal ferry service to Portovenere had ended. Oh well, taking the bus wasn't that bad!
After spending the better part of the day exploring Portovenere, we ended up on the promenade and noticed a sign for the ferry. What? Everything we read online said that the service had ended before our arrival. Good thing the return bus tickets weren't too expensive because we threw them away and rode the ferry back! After our arrival into to La Spezia, we enjoyed our stroll along the promenade back to the cruise terminal.
Stuff your eyes with wonder, live as if you'd drop dead in ten seconds. See the world. It's more fantastic than any dream made or paid for in factories. - Ray Bradbury
