Spanning the River Cher in France's Loire Valley stands the Château de Chenonceau. It is amazing to walk the grounds and view the castle that provided access and protection to the surrounding area. Inside the castle there is a large coat of arms room that extends out over the river providing a wonderful view to all inside. Surprisingly, I also enjoyed seeing the historic kitchen full of many old kitchen gadgets.

Have you visited the Loire Valley in France?
Before embarking on a river cruise, we spent almost a week in Paris and the surrounding area. To get a taste of the Loire Valley, we rode the train southwest and picked up a rental car for the day. Since we had read that it was the best known castle, we toured Château de Chenonceau. It's in such a great location - perfect to impose a toll on boats passing by on the river!
