See and Hear Matakana Falls, Matakana's Hidden Gem
Only an hours drive from Auckland is the New Zealand town of Matakana. Near the intersection of Matakana Wharf Road and Esplanade Reserve, there's a car park behind the popular "sculptured" public restrooms. The car park sits on the property beside the Matakana River, and if you listen carefully, you'll be able to hear the water falling from the nearby Matakana Waterfall. The small town is also home to shopping, restaurants and, in the recent past, short river cruises.

Spotted this hidden gem when we made a stop in Matakana, New Zealand. We could hear the falling water from the car, but it actually took longer than you would think for us to spot the waterfall!
And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it's a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end. - Pico Iyer
