Australia | Sydney | Royal Botanic Gardens | Sydney Harbour | Mrs. Macquarie's Chair | Viewpoints | Walking | Hiking
During our week of exploring Sydney, Australia, we took a short break one afternoon to sit in Mrs. Macquarie's Chair! Elizabeth Macquarie was married to the man who served as governor of New South Wales from 1810 to 1821. Sitting on the stone chair and enjoying the amazing view, it was easy to understand why she loved this spot along the harbour.

If you read the story of Mrs. Macquarie's Chair, would you make it a point to visit during a stay in Sydney?
The landmark stone chair sits in what is now the Royal Botanic Garden. The chair was reportedly hand carved by convicts back in 1810. Her husband, the then governor, commisioned the chair for her as she loved the area and it's view of Sydney Harbour. She regularly took walks along the harbour and even had a road named on her behalf.
