What was formerly called a "Mini-Suite" on Norwegian Cruise Lines is now known as a "Club Balcony Suite". Each suite has a queen size bed, a sitting area and, of course, a balcony. The club balcony suites are also more spacious than inside, oceanview and balcony staterooms. One downside is the additional $3.00 per person per day in service charges (gratuities).

How much more would you pay for an upgraded cabin on a cruise ship?

Just over a week before leaving home, we got the email offering us the option to bid on an upgraded stateroom for our 11 day cruise on the Norwegian Dawn. As we typically spend limited time in our cabin, we originally reserved an oceanview stateroom. Since we are cruising for longer than a week, we decided to bid on both a balcony and a club balcony suite.

Our $150 bid (per person) was accepted, so we'll get to enjoy a bigger room with a balcony for the next 11 days. (Hopefully NCL will fix the error that they made when charging our credit card. What should have been a $300 charge was a $350 charge.)
