Bird Watching in Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The Ngorongoro Crater, the largest crater in the world, is found in Tanzania's Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. For those going "on safari" in Tanzania, bird watching is quite popular. It is estimated that over 500 different species call the area home for at least a part of each year.

Where have you enjoyed bird watching?

During the three years filled with anticipation of our upcoming safari, it wasn't really the birds that excited me. I have to admit, however, that we saw a number of pretty cool (and interesting) birds in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. Some that we saw included ostrich, Corey gazelle (the largest flying bird in Africa), hammerkop, gray crowned crane, egret, Marabou stork, superb starling and flamingos.

Are you into birding?
