Swim Like a Fish at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve

From either the city of Apia, Samoa or the Port of Apia, you can walk a short distance to a marine reserve that is perfect for swimming. During high tide, it's also a great place for snorkeling and even diving. The inviting blue waters at the Palolo Deep Marine Reserve are filled with coral, tropical fish and even some sea snakes (eek!). Snorkeling equipment is very limited - so if you have your own, it's best to bring it along!

Where have you had an unexpected port day during a cruise vacation?

Due to unsafe weather conditions, our ship was unable to anchor in the Bay of Islands. Although many passengers were upset about this change, it was a positive for us. (We had stayed overnight in the area just a few days before during our road trip around New Zealand's North Island.)

After sailing for a couple of days, we enjoyed an unplanned port day snorkeling at Palolo Deep Marine Reserve in Apia, Samoa - just a 10 minute walk from the port!
