Crafty Creations at Santuario Animal de Ccochahuasi

Santuario Animal de Ccochahuasi is the home to a variety of rescued and mistreated animals as well as those belonging to species at risk of extinction. In addition to spending time learning about (and even petting and feeding) some of the animals, there's an interesting demonstration of the process which the locals use to dye and weave colored fibers into beautifully handcrafted items.

Do you enjoy shopping for locally made items when traveling?

When exploring the Urubamba (Sacred) Valley of Peru in 2018, we made a stop at Santuario Animal de Ccochahuasi. We were led around the sanctuary by a guide who explained the background of the sanctuary and let us spend time with the animals. We also got to watch locals creating beautiful woven goods. They both dye the fibers at the sanctuary and, once dry, weave a variety of handcrafted items available for purchase.
