Hiking to The Monastery Is Worth the Time and Effort

Jordan | Middle East | Petra | Petra Archaeological Park | UNESCO | Monastery | Ad-Deir Monastery | Archaeology
The trail is easy to follow, but when the temperatures are warm (or hot), make sure you have plenty of water for the approximately 40 minute hike to Petra's Monastery. (There's water for sale along the way, and also the option of hiring a donkey to save wear and tear on your feet!) Larger in size than the more easily accessible Treasury, the Monastery was built in the 3rd century in the Nabataean architectural style.

After passing the many vendors along the mostly uphill hike, we finally got a glimpse of the Ad-Deir Monastery at the Petra Archaeological Park. It was hot ... but so glad we made the effort to walk the trail. Who knows if we'll have a chance to return?
