Creative People Do Amazing Things With Garbage!

Bordallo II (Artur Bordalo) is a Portuguese environmental artist who creates amazing animal sculptures out of trash all around the world. "Plastic Mero", found by the Funchal waterfront since 2019, is one of his many street art creations. If you are arriving in Funchal by cruise ship and looking to get some steps, walking to the sculpture will get you a good start!

Where have you seen cool art created out of trash?

We came upon this amazing piece of street art strolling near the waterfront in Funchal, Madeira while waiting to pick up our rental car. We saw a similar creation in Sweden back in 2016.

Interesting fact: "Mero" is another name for the "Atlantic Goliath Grouper", an endangered species. The sculpture, "Plastic Mero", was created out of trash found in the ocean. Trash like this is one of the reasons that the species is endangered today.
