Measuring in at over 90 feet in height, Pompey's Pillar (or Pompey's Column) stands over Alexandria, Egypt's former capital city. It is estimated that the tall red granite column dates back to the year 300, when Egypt was ruled by the Romans. All remaining structures that were part of the former temple were destroyed about 17 centuries ago.

The picture isn't a very good one, but Pompey's Pillar is one of the city's most visited sites!
Fun fact: Of the ancient monuments that can be seen in Alexandria today, Pompey's Pillar is the only one standing in its original location.
