Fun with Squirrel Monkeys at Monkey Island

A new cruise port opened in late 2021 on the northern shore of the Dominican Republic. Taino Bay, located in Puerto Plata, now has docking capacity for two large cruise ships. The first phase of the port area has shopping, dining, a beach club and an interactive exhibit. Monkey Island is fun for monkey lovers of all ages. Watch them, feed them, let them crawl all over you ... and take loads of photos!

What animals do you enjoy interacting with?

Our first port of call was Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. Taino Bay is a very new port (less than two months old) and is quite impressive. In addition to the retail shops and restaurants that so many Caribbean port cities are known for, there's an interactive monkey exhibit.

Monkey Island is the home of I don't know how many squirrel monkeys. These little monkeys are adorable - they are fast and they crawl all over you. We had so much fun on our short visit with these monkeys crawling all over us and jumping from person to person. We even got to feed the monkeys!
