Covering over 13 acres, the Great Pyramid of Khufu is the largest of the three primary pyramids on the Giza Plateau. It is estimated that a total of approximately 2.3 million blocks were used to build the pyramid (and some may have weighed as much as 50 tons). Until the completion of the steeple at London's Old St. Paul's Cathedral was built, there were no taller structures in the world than this pyramid.

The pyramids were at the top of our "must see" list for our time in Cairo. Knowing that there is always the potential for a tour cancellation, we reserved two tours that had time at the pyramids. It turned out to be such a blessing - the first time we did the more touristy things (climbed inside & rode a camel). On our return, we spent time exploring on our own.
