Dream of Yesteryear on Monte Smith Hill in Rhodes

Monte Smith Hill, just under 2 miles from the center of the Walled City of Rhodes, is the home to the remains of both the Acropolis of Rhodes and the Ancient Stadium of Rhodes. Getting to "the hill" is a fairly easy walk on paved sidewalks and the reward is a completely different view from what you'll see in the walled city. Don't miss the view of the sea from the Temple of Apollo.

When you visit ancient sites, do you ever wonder what it would have been like when it was new?

We left the walled city of Rhodes and walked along the more modern city streets to the former site of the Acropolis of Rhodes. Along with the ancient stadium, the Acropolis is located on Monte Smith Hill. Only a few of the columns of the Temple of Apollo still stand (and during our visit were covered with scaffolding). It was still fun to think about what it might have looked like over 2,000 years ago!

What are some of your favorite ancient sites?
