Riding a Camel in Tamanfaya National Park

Tamanfaya National Park is the location of the most important volcano eruption in the Canary Islands. This eruption, on the island of Lanzarote, lasted for 61 years. In the park you'll find the Echadero de Camellos where you can go for a ride on a camel.

Have you ever gone on a camel ride?

During our 2018 port day on Lanzarote, one of the Canary Islands, we spent a part of the day exploring Tamanfaya National Park. Our first stop was at Echadero de Camellos where we had the choice of riding a camel or visiting a museum.

We tried (unsuccessfully) to avoid the camel poop as we walked toward the line of camels. Of the approximately 200 camels, we rode on Phillipe. Although it wasn't the smoothest of rides (can you say whiplash), it was definitely an experience we will never forget! (Looking back on the experience, I'm not sure if I would do it again. It would definitely require more research to learn about how the animals are cared for.)

Where have you ridden a camel?
