Reclining Buddha and More at Penang's Wat Chaiya

Located directly across the street from each other in Penang's port city of George Town are Thai and Burmese Temples. Wat Chaiyamangalaram, the Thai Buddhist Temple (often referred to as Wat Chaiya), is home to a 100+ foot long Reclining Buddha statue. When originally installed, the statue was the country's longest reclining Buddha. There's no telling how many other Buddha statues are also housed in the building!

Social Media Description

We saw our first reclining Buddha in Thailand more than ten years ago, and earlier this year we visited a Thai Buddhist Temple in Penang. Entering the building required walking past the "guardian" statues, serpents and dragons. The star of the temple inside was Wat Chaiyamangalaram, our second opportunity to admire a reclining Buddha statue.
