When we started our day in Riomaggiore, I had no idea that, before the end of the day, I would complete my most difficult hike! (We do enjoy hiking, and don't mind longer trails, but don't really do a lot of uphill/downhill hiking or stair climbing.)
From Riomaggiore to Manarola, it is said that the path starts out with over 600 uphill stairs - and that is stairs of all shapes and sizes and heights, etc. After reaching the top, there's another 600 downhill stairs which, surprisingly, may have been more difficult than going up.
When we left home, we had big plans to hike between all five of the villages. Needless to say, since I could barely walk after this one, we changed our plans!!!
