In Full Control on Luge Tracks at Skyline Rotorua

Since 1986, both the young and not so young have been traversing the luge tracks at Skyline Rotorua. The brand new additions, which now rank the luge track as the longest in the world, include corkscrews and tunnels. Luge riders can choose from four tracks, and once inside their "sled", they are in full control of steering and braking as they make their way down. It's hard to say "no" to a second ride!

If you could compete in the Olympics, what sport would you choose?

For the first time, I drove a "sled" on the luge tracks at Skyline Rotorua on New Zealand's North Island. What fun! We chose the "Scenic Track" that came in at just over one mile in length. (Days after our visit, the track was renamed "Tiki Tour Luge Track".)

Traversing a paved track that wound through a forest (rather than an icy track) was, I'm sure, much easier than what I'd have to do to compete in the Olympics!
