Pink and Chum Salmon Scaling Sitka's Salmon Ladder
The Sheldon Jackson Hatchery fish ladder can be found outside of the Sitka Sound Science Center which dates back to 1974. Thanks to a grant, the hatchery and ladder are expected to be upgraded soon. Although the population of salmon expected to return to the hatchery each year varies, the facility's permit allows for the release of up to three million of each species (Pink and Chum) plus another quarter million Coho Salmon!

During our port day in Sitka, Alaska, we strolled around on our own. Since our visit was during August, we were in the midst of peak activity for the salmon ladder!
