Looking Out Over The Rooftops of Old Town Chania

Like in many European cities, the remains of fortifications built as defensive walls still surround the Greek city of Chania in Crete. Dating back to the 1500s, remains of the Siavo Bastion (sometimes referred to as Bastion of Schiavo) stand in the southwest corner of Old Town Chania. Those who look closely will see a narrow path which leads up the hillside. The path becomes wider as you travel upwards and, once you reach the hilltop, your reward is a view over the rooftops of Old Town Chania!

When you travel, do you tend to go off the beaten path?

I love to find out of the way or less visited locations. Sometimes that's hard when we travel by cruise ship as we don't have a lot of time in each port. During our day on the Greek island of Crete, we found this old fortification that had a nice view of Chania from above. There was only one other person there, and the feel was so different than the crowded city below!

Do you like to go off the beaten path?
