The Amazing Strategic Location of Stirling Castle

Scotland's Stirling Castle was important for controlling access to the northern Scottish territories. Sitting high up on a volcanic rock above the river, some of the best views could be seen of both the Lowlands and the Highlands. In addition to the view of the surrounding territory, the castle also had gun control over the country's important river crossings.

Have you spent time in Scotland?

During our British Isles cruise in 2016, we made several stops in Scotland and still want to return to spend more time there. During one of our most memorable tours, we explored Stirling Castle in the city of Stirling. Depending on whether Scotland was at war or peace, the castle filled different roles.

Because of its location, Scottish civil wars were fought in the nearby vicinity. During peaceful times, Scottish royalty lived it up inside the castle! We loved exploring inside the great walls of the castle, seeing the Great Hall and imagining the times when the guns of Stirling Castle might have been fired!
