New Zealand | Mount Ruapehu | Tongariro National Park | Whakapapa Village | Taranaki Falls Walk | Hiking | Waterfalls
Not far from the Tongariro National Park Visitor Centre you'll find two hiking tracks that lead to Taranaki Falls. Take your pick of the upper or lower track, and once you reach the falls you can choose to return on the same path or do the loop. (The waterfall is approximately halfway from either start if you do the loop.) Although there are both inclines and descents, it's not too difficult of a hike and the falls are beautiful. Find a large rock with a falls view and take a break before your return hike.

What waterfall hikes have you completed recently?
The "Taranaki Falls Walk" in New Zealand's Tongariro National Park was not too easy but not difficult either, and the waterfall was worth the steps. Coming in at just over 3 1/2 miles (6 km) in length, the suggested two hours is fairly accurate - including a break at the halfway point to admire the falls (and maybe enjoy a snack).
