Kauai | Hawaii | Wai Koa Loop Trail | Stone Dam | Kilauea Lighthouse | Tree Plantation | Hiking | Paradise | Swimming
The Stone Dam, reached via hiking the Wai Koa Loop Trail on Kauai, was originally a part of the Kilauea Sugar Plantation in the 1800s. The dam was built to ensure that the sugar cane had enough water to thrive. What's amazing is that each of the rocks were hand cut and placed!

Have you ever hiked when visiting Hawaii?
We love to relax and enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian waters, but we also enjoy seeing the sights. After visiting the Kilauea Lighthouse, we stumbled on the Wai Koa Loop Trail. The hike took us through a beautiful mahogany tree plantation. The grove was so interesting as the trees were all perfectly spaced. At the end of the trail, we came to this waterfall and stone dam - all perfectly landscaped in true paradise fashion! It was an awesome place to sit and enjoy the view as it was very peaceful, calm and just plain beautiful.
And if travel is like love, it is, in the end, mostly because it's a heightened state of awareness, in which we are mindful, receptive, undimmed by familiarity and ready to be transformed. That is why the best trips, like the best love affairs, never really end. - Pico Iyer
