Although we only had one day to explore Crater Lake National Park, it was enough to make us
realize that we wanted to return! Over 7,000 years ago, the cinder cone known today as Wizard
Island was formed when it erupted out of Crater Lake. The best view of the island in the middle
of the lake is from Watchman Overlook, one of the 30 viewpoints along Rim Drive.

Do you have a favorite lake?
Although not your typical "lake experience" (boating, fishing and other water sports), Crater Lake
is at the top of our list for scenery. The blue water in the volcano formed lake is truly amazing.
Topping off the panoramic beauty was the large banks of snow that were still present in mid
June.
