Located in the heart of Egypt's seaside city of Alexandria, the Abu al-Abbas Mosque was originally built in 1775 and has been updated in the years since its construction. The mosque is an active place of worship and a stop for Muslims on pilgrimage from Cairo to Mecca. The mosque stands on the city's "Mosque Square" and is said to be built over the tomb of a Spanish saint. All visitors to the mosque are required to remove their shoes and women must be modestly dressed with a covering over their chest, knees and shoulders.

Thankful that we had an awesome guide with us during our two days of touring Alexandria. We learned so much more than if we just explored on our own - especially at Abu al-Abbas Mosque.
