From Pollywog to Shellback on the Grand Princess

One of the long-standing Navy traditions is an initiation ceremony for seamen who cross the equator for the first time. After being initiated, the former "Pollywogs" become "Shellbacks" who, in theory, are ready to successfully brave the high seas. Cruise ships often perform a similar (but less physical) ceremony for passengers crossing the line for the first time as well.

What "initiation" ceremonies have you participated in?

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately), our transpacific sailing on the Grand Princess didn't have the time nor space for all "pollywog" passengers to participate in the "Crossing the Equator" ceremony. So glad that we at least had a chance to join in on the fun as observers!

Have you crossed the equator while sailing on a ship?
