Known for history, architecture and views, Castle Hill is a "must see" for anyone visiting Budapest. Located on the "Buda" (or west) side of the Danube, Castle Hill is home to the Royal Palace, Trinity Square, Matthias Church, Old Town and more. It's free to stroll through the grounds, but riding the funicular, seeing the interiors of museums, the Royal Palace (once the home for Hungarian Kings), the church and other sites does require the payment of an entrance fee.

Social Media Description

Since we only had one day to explore Budapest on our own, we chose to stroll through the grounds of Castle Hill (Buda Castle). We had planned to ride the funicular (closed for maintenance) and go inside Matthias Church (closed for a wedding), but still enjoyed our time.
