Nine overlooks along two rim drives in Canyon de Chelly National Monument allow visitors to get a glimpse into a place where people have lived for nearly 5,000 years. Those with more than a half day to devote to exploring the area can take a tour to get a closer look at the farm lands deep in the canyon. Surrounded by the canyon walls, you'll see their homes (still occupied today) with livestock grazing nearby.

As we continued our eastbound drive toward home, we made a half day stop at Canyon de Chelly National Monument. We drove the two paved rim drives to the overlooks which provide excellent views of the canyon below. We also snuck in a few shorter hikes during our stop which got us closer to the canyon edge in a few places.
What you've done becomes the judge of what you're going to do — especially in other people's minds. When you're traveling, you are what you are right there and then. People don't have your past to hold against you. No yesterdays on the road. - William Least Heat Moon
