Egypt | Luxor | Thebes | Colossi of Memnon | Amenhotep III | Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III | Ancient Egypt | Egyptology
Standing tall for over three thousand years are two stone statues known as the Colossi of Memnon. The two statues were originally standing guard at the entrance of the Temple of Amenhotep III which has since been destroyed. In addition to being the Mortuary Temple of Amenhotep III, what is said to have been the largest complex of its kind was the same place where the king was worshipped during his years of living on earth.

Our last stop before returning to the river boat was a quick one at the Colossi of Memnon. We were ready for a little time to relax before exploring more historic sites along the Nile!
