At about 3/4 mile long, the Auckland Harbour Bridge has spanned the Waitemata Harbour since 1959. The iconic bridge is the longest in the country and is also a slight bit longer than the famous Sydney Harbour Bridge. Between sunset and midnight on a Friday or Saturday evening is a good time to plan to be somewhere in Auckland with a view of the bridge so you don't miss the light and sound show!

We lucked out with a Saturday embarkation day for our transpacific cruise between Auckland, New Zealand and Vancouver, Canada aboard the Grand Princess. The sun set just as we were leaving the Waitemata Harbour, so we had a view of the light show on the Auckland Harbour Bridge.

Fun fact: Similar to the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Auckland's bridge is arch shaped and often referred to as the "coat hanger". It takes a little imagination, but if you look at the bridge you might notice a resemblance to the hangers in your closet!
