Italy | Lombardy | Milan | Milano | Duomo of Milan | Duomo di Milano | Crypt | Jemale Chapel | Saint Charles Borromeo
Behind and underneath the main altar inside Milan's Duomo is a smaller chapel. The Jemale Chapel of the Duomo, a crypt, was designed and created out of marble in the 1500s. It is the remains of Saint Charles Borromeo which rest inside the crypt. He is often recognized for his assistance to the sick in Milan during the plague when so many others fled from the city.

Your timing is everything when exploring Milan's Duomo as the opening times of each ticketed entry vary. If we would have done a better job of planning in advance, we would have saved a lot of steps - including passing by the crypt several times before it opened!
