A horse and carriage ride takes river cruise passengers from the dock at Edfu to the Temple of Horus. Located between the cities of Aswan & Luxor, the ancient Egyptian structure is also known as the Edfu Temple. Completion of the temple took over 150 years, and it is estimated that the temple was buried under sand and silt for over 1400 years until being discovered in 1860. It is often recognized as one of the best preserved ancient Egyptian temples.

We'd walked and rode to ancient Egyptian temples, but arriving on a horse-drawn carriage was a first for us! We had arrived in Edfu late in the evening and took a morning tour of the Temple of Horus before sailing further south along the Nile.
